The Transposon Registry

Tn6720 is a 9,561 bp composite transposon on the chromosome of ST72 Staphylococcus aureus carriage isolates from Cabo Verde. Tn6720 carries a beta-lactamase module with blaZ, blaR1 and blaI and is mobilised by three Tn554-like transposases tnpABC, but unlike Tn554, Tn6720 generates a 7 bp target duplication upon transposition. In addition, Tn6720 carries an IS1182-family insertion sequence with a sequence identity of 1820/1927 (94%) to ISSep1 of Staphylococcus epidermidis and of 1753/1911 (92%) to IS1272 of Staphylococcus haemolyticus and a YolD-like family protein gene.
