The 7,661-bp β-lactamase transposon Tn7702 is present in Staphylococcus aureus strains of the WA121 lineage. WA121 are PVL-positive ST5 strains found almost exclusively in Australia, NCBI SNP cluster PDS000133861.7. Strain 2010-15611 (NZ_CP093933) WA121 is the first isolated representative of this clade. Tn7702 encodes genes tnpA, tnpB, tnpC, blaZ, blaR1, blaI and a copy of yolD. Tn7702 is integrated into the yolD gene in the WA121 chromosome (NZ_CP093933, 2,039,612 - 2,039,952). A second copy of Tn7702 is also present in the yolD gene of the conjugative plasmid p2010-15611-1 (NZ_CP093931, 23,055 - 30,715). Tn7702 shares 81% nucleotide identify with Tn553 but has suffered a ~1.4-kb deletion of a hypothetical gene present on Tn553 positioned between the Tn7702 tnpC and yolD genes.
